So we did what they always say - we gave plenty of fluids and did everything in our power to keep his temp down. Regular doses of Tylenol and cool baths - but it didn't matter what we did. That temp just kept climbing. When Saturday evening rolled around and his temp was at 105.3, he was completely lethargic and out of it, we made the judgement call that it was too much for us to handle. At 8 p.m., a clinic visit is no longer an option so in to the ED we went.
After three-plus hours in the ED, one dose of infant ibprophen and a chest X-ray, we were sent home with a very tired little boy. Again, just a virus. That makes me feel a little better - knowing that my gut was right - he didn't have an ear infection or any other kind of illness. And I was also right - there wasn't anything the doctor could do. Well, I take that back, he definitely put our minds at ease a little bit, just knowing Nick was going to be OK. By the time we left the ED, after 11 p.m., his temp had come down to only 101. Whew.
Here's to hoping things turn up next week. We have Nick's birthday just around the corner and can't wait to see all of our friends and family. And Nick can't wait to get a whole cake to himself - I know, he told me so!
